Blue Knights Volleyball Signs Abigail Shaffer

The Blue Knight volleyball team has announced the signing of Abigail Shaffer from Merritt Island, Florida. Abigail is going to be a sophomore Libero/OH in the fall. Abigail played 1 year at Eastern Florida University.

"I am really excited to welcome Abigail to our program. She is really passionate about volleyball, has a high volleyball IQ, and understands what it means to be a team player. She has terrific ball control skills and will make an immediate impact on the court. She has a dynamic personality and will instantly add to our team chemistry as well," said head coach Jen Bowman.
We asked Abigail a few questions to get to know her better.

Tell us a little about yourself and about your volleyball history up to this point.
I'm originally from Minnesota. I moved to Merritt Island, Florida. I started playing volleyball when I was 11. I played right side and libero in high school, and I played outside, middle and right side during club season.

List any volleyball/academic awards you have received:

Undefeated conference and district champions all years played in high school. 

State runner up in 2014 as a player, state champion in 2018 as an assistant coach. 

Brevard county senior All-Star selection (north team) 

Do you play any other sports?

I ran track in high school 2013-2016.

What other interests/hobbies or activities do you participate in?

My hobbies include playing tennis, ping pong, and paddle boarding. 

Why did you choose DCTC and what you are excited about in the coming 2 years?

I chose DCTC because of all the great opportunities it has to offer. They have an interior design program which I am interested in. I am excited about being an student-athlete at DCTC and being a part of the volleyball program at the school.
