Blue Knights Volleyball Signs Maddie Ries
The Blue Knights volleyball team has signed Maddie Ries, a middle/right side hitter from St. Paul, MN.
"Maddie is an extremely versatile athlete that can play any position. She has a ton of potential and a great work ethic, so I can't wait to see what Maddie is able to accomplish at DCTC. She is also a great student, leader, and will be an excellent addition to our program. " said head volleyball coach Jen Bowman.
We asked Maddie a few questions to get to know her better.
Tell us a little about yourself and about your volleyball history up to this point.
I grew up in Saint Paul and started doing dance and theater at a young age. I was always active and outgoing. Running was a big activity in my family but I always knew that wasn't for me! I switched schools in 6th grade and my new best friend encouraged me to tryout for volleyball. My coach that year was one of the reasons I fell in love with the sport; she was super encouraging and patient, and as a beginner that was so important to me. When I found volleyball it was so exciting to have found a sport that I have a passion for.

I have run track since I was 4 years old and competed in long jump in the Junior Olympics in Knoxville Tennessee in 2007.
What other interests/hobbies or activities do you participate in?
I love making art and music; I paint, play guitar, and sing. I really enjoy being active, whether it's traveling, climbing, or just working out. I've also done a 150 mile bike ride for charity. Twice!
Why did you choose DCTC and what you are excited about in the coming 2 years?
I chose DCTC because it seems like the perfect fit for me in terms of size and for what I plan to do in the future. I'm excited to meet new people and continue my volleyball career!
Welcome to the Blue Knights family Maddie!
