Blue Knights Volleyball Improved to 7-6 After Anoka and DCTC Quad Tournaments

Blue Knights volleyball had a very successful weekend at the Anoka tournament and at the DCTC Quad tournament! They went 5-2 on the weekend and improved their overall record to 7-6.

On Saturday, the Knights lost a close first match to Iowa Lakes (19-25, 23-25). They rebounded quickly and improved their play each of the following matches. In the next three matches, DCTC beat Itasca (25-23, 25-13), Northland (25-17, 25-21), and Rainy River (25-13, 25-20) in straight sets.



In the Itasca match, Mikhaila Ness led the Knights with 12 kills and a hitting % of .360. Kalladera Awatt also had 6 kills, while Autumn Kubitz had 2 aces, and Chelsea Keiwel added 10 digs.

The Knights continued their great play against Northland Community College. Mikhaila continued her dominance and hit .360 adding 13 kills. Kalladera Awatt hit an impressive .417 adding 6 kills. Lexie Kennedy had 8 digs and 2 aces, and Autumn Kubitz had 7 digs and 2 aces.

During the last match on Saturday, the Knights faced an athletic Rainy River Team. The Knights came out really strong and hit .522 as a team in the first set. Rainy River fought back in the second set, but just couldn't contend with the solid performing knights.

Mikhaila let the team with 11 kills and hit an astounding .625. Kalladera Awatt added 6 kills and hit .417. Autumn Kubitz added 4 kills and hit .300. Kasey King added 23 assists.

On Sunday, the Knights hosted Lake Region, NDSCS, and Gogebic. All 4 teams compete in the Region 13 East Sub Region during playoffs.

The first match, the Knights matched up against Lake Region and a very fast offense. The Knights served really tough and kept them out of system. Mikhaila led all players with 17 kills. Autumn had 7 kills and led the team with 13 digs.

The second match, the Knights played a big NDSCS team. The Knights competed well, but lost in 3 close sets. Mikhaila had 16 kills and 8 digs. Kalladera had 10 kills and hit .300 with 2 solo blocks. Chelsea Keiwel added 8 digs.

The last match of the weekend, the Knights faced off against Gogebic. The Knights proved to be too much for Gogebic to handle, once again, beating them in 3 straight sets. Mikhaila had 15 kills hitting .433. Kalladera had 8 kills. Autumn had 7 kills and Lexie had 6 kills. Chelsea led the team with 10 digs, and Kasey had 32 assists.

One of the big stories from the weekend was Mikhaila Ness tallying up 94 kills with a hitting percentage of .310 for the entire weekend. Mikhaila is now #3 in kills  on the NJCAA Div II leader board and #3 in kills/set!

The Blue Knights head to NDCSC this Friday and then take on St. Thomas University JV at home, Monday, September 19th.
