Blue Knights Volleyball Signs Haley Anderson

Blue Knights Volleyball Signs Haley Anderson

The Blue Knights volleyball team has signed libero/setter Haley Anderson for fall 2017. Haley was an All American Libero for Kokoro volleyball club and All Conference setter from at Hastings High School.

"I am really excited that Haley will be joining our program. Haley will make an immediate impact on our court. She has great volleyball IQ and is a great vocal leader. Volleyball is in her blood and she is determined to improve. Her ball control skills are excellent and she has the ability to single handedly change the course of a game!" said head volleyball coach Jen Bowman.

We asked Haley some questions to get to know her better:

Tell us a little about yourself and about your volleyball history up to this point:
I'm Haley, I'm 17 going to be 18 in June. My life is all volleyball, when I'm not playing I'm watching my mom's friends play. I've been playing volleyball basically since I was born. My mom was a former player and coach and I would always go with her to practice while she coached. I started playing competitively when I was 10 and haven't stopped since. I have only missed maybe 3 practices within that amount of time and still play extra on the weekend and in the summer. I play draw tournaments indoor and sand along with adult leagues.

List the years and names of volleyball teams you've played for:

I played 12's and 14's for Hastings heat. While playing for the Heat I was moved up an age group, so when I was 12 I was playing on the 14's team. Then I switched to Kokoro when I was 14 and played for their 14-1's, 15-2's, 16-3's, and 17-2's. After my 17's year at Kokoro I went back and played for the Heat 18's team. I also played on my 8th grade A team and actually semi-coached the team. We were short on coaches to our coach left me in charge at times so she could coach the younger teams without a coach. Then I played JV in 9th grade and was a swinger on JV and varsity my 10th grade year and junior and senior year I played varsity as a captain my senior year.

List any volleyball/academic awards you have received:
Last Kokoro season my team took third place at AAU nationals and I earned All-American honors.  I was named All Conference Honorable Mention my junior year and All Conference my senior year for Hastings High School. I earned Most Defensive Player, Best S/R Average, and Best/Co-Best Server in both my junior and senior HS seasons. To end my high school volleyball career I was voted MVP by my teammates, coaches, and managers.

Have you played any other sports? If yes, list them and how long you've played them.
I have played many sports including softball, track, swimming, powerlifting, and volleyball. I played softball for one year but I also did the Pitch Hit and Run for two years. Then I ran track 6th-8th and swimming for 8½ years. I have done powerlifting for two years and volleyball for 14 years 8 years competitively.

What other interests/hobbies or activities do you participate in?
I have participated in 5 triathlons where I was the youngest competitor racing against all adults. Throughout the year I run in 4 races in or near Hastings.

Why did you choose DCTC?

I chose DCTC because they have a vet tech major and are much more inexpensive than a university.

I am very excited to see my game improve more and see my life kind of come together.

Welcome to the Blue Knight family Haley!
