
2015 Kickoff Classic dominated by Johnson County Community College
The 2015 Kickoff Classic hosted by Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) was played at Ames Soccer Complex in Rosemount, Minnesota on the grounds of DCTC. The tournament spanned 4 days, starting on Friday, September 4 2015 and concluding on Monday, September 7, 2015. The teams this year included the host team, Dakota County Technical College, Anoka Ramsey Community College (Coon Rapids, Minnesota), Red River College (Winnipeg, Canada), Scott County Community College (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Johnson Community College (Overland Park, Kansas).
Johnson County ranked #16 in the country in the latest poll dominated their opponents in all three games, scoring 24 goals and only giving up one goal. Johnson was able to not only control the score of the games, but also dominated in possession of the ball and were able to keep their opponents from creating many scoring chances.
The host team DCTC, went 1-1-1 over the weekend. DCTC started tournament play with Johnson County and fought hard to a 5-0 loss. DCTC was able to hold Johnson County to only one goal in the run of play, but gave up four corner kick goals. DCTC rebounded in their second game against Scott County with a 2-1 win. In the last game of the tournament, DCTC played Red River in what turned out to be the most exciting game of the weekend as well. Red River came out strong and dominated the first half by taking a 3-0 lead at halftime. DCTC changed their formation to start the second half and was able to score two goals in the first fifteen minutes. Finally, DCTC evened the score with 11 minutes to play. Both teams had a chance to score late in the game, but neither was able to convert their opportunity.
