Blue Knights Softball Heads to Arizona For Opener

It's time for the start of DCTC softball in 2019! The team hopes for a big start as they travel to Arizona for a six games starting on March 18th.  The team then comes home to play at the Rosemount, in the Irish SportsDome against regional opponents. The Blue Knights have scheduled 40 games this spring which included teams from Michigan, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Montana and Minnesota.  In addition to a great schedule, the softball team will be playing at a much improve Umore softball complex which includes new dugouts, storage and a new bleacher settings with more to come in the near future!

This year's team is led by four returning sophomores in Lexi Lasso (3B, Roseville HS), Kaitlyn Nash (SS, Apple Valley HS), Ayanna Iyamu (1B, Thatcher HS) and Courtney Weispfennig (UTL,  Hutchinson). All had valuable game experience last year. They will compete for starting positions.

The freshman group is big in numbers and talent which could spell positive success for DCTC! Pitching is where it all starts as the Blue Knights staff hopes to lead the team. Megan Manor (P,  Menomonie HS), Courtney Heagle (P, Simley HS) and Alex Seurer (P, Prior Lake HS) will all get their innings. Catching duties will be handled by Kalley Partyka (C, Henry Sibley HS). Bailey Larkin ( UTL,  St. Agnes HS) will play multiple positions. Haily Dabrowski (2B, Irondale HS) will compete in the infield. The outfield will be anchored by Deymbre Avalos (OF, Westview HS) . Maggie Hardy (OF, Richfield HS), Mia Haugen (OF, New Prague HS), Jocelyn Mulvihill (OF, Lakeville South HS), Avery Newton (OF, South St. Paul HS) and  Nikki Farnham (OF, Richfield HS) will all compete for playing time.

"The team has practiced well and I'm hoping that carries over to the games." Says Tom Cross head softball coach. "We are young in a few areas but our hopes are that things fall together and they have fun"

 

The Blue Knights are a member of the NJCAA at the Division II level.
