Blue Knights Split pair of doubleheaders heading into playoffs

The Blue Knights split doubleheaders versus St. Thomas JV 2-5, 7-5 and versus Bethel JV 6-8, 5-4. They now head to Devils Lake, ND for the Region XIII Softball tournament. Their first game is on Friday, May 5th at 1 pm against Dawson CC. The Region playoffs are a five team double elimation tournament.

Highlights from the midweek doubleheaders:

Game 1: St. Thomas JV 5 DCTC 2

  • The Blue Knights watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-2 loss to St Thomas JV on Tuesday. DCTC lost despite out-hitting St Thomas JV eight to six.
  • Burger took the loss for the Blue Knights. She went six innings, surrendering five runs, and six hits.
  • The Blue Knights had eight hits in the game. Gabby Heckmann, Sammi Sandretto, and Jess Hall each collected multiple hits for DCTC.

Game 2: DCTC 7 St. Thomas JV 5

  • A walk-off triple led DCTC past St Thomas JV 7-5 on Tuesday. The Blue Knights was down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Taniel Schellbach tripled driving in three runs.
  • Taniel Schellbach collected four hits in four at bats to help lead DCTC to victory. Schellbach tripled in the second, singled in the fourth, singled in the sixth, and tripled in the seventh.
  • Kasey King earned the win for the Blue Knights. She pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs, eight hits, and striking out two. Sieanna Birch recorded the last four outs to earn the save. 
  • The Blue Knights had 13 hits in the game. Schellbach, Pilar Garcia, Gabby Heckmann, and Carlee Palmer each collected multiple hits.

Game 1: Bethel JV 8 DCTC 6

  • Even though DCTC and Bethel JV both had their opportunities, it was Bethel JV that eventually prevailed 8-6 on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Bethel JV batting in the top of the fifth when there was an error, scoring one run.
  • Despite the loss, the Blue Knights did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Bethel JV had nine hits on the way to victory.
  • The Blue Knights scored on a single by Sammi Sandretto, a stolen base , and a single by Gabby Heckmann.
  • Heckmann took the loss. She went four and a third innings, surrendering six runs, six hits, striking out two, and walking one.
  • Carlee Palmer went 1-for-4 at the plate as she led the team with two runs batted in.

Game 2: DCTC 5 Bethel JV 4

  • A walk-off double led the Blue Knights past Bethel JV 5-4 on Wednesday.DCTC was down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Gabby Heckmann doubled driving in two runs.
  • Denielle Burger earned the win. She threw four innings, surrendering three runs, four hits, and striking out two. Kasey King recorded the last nine outs to earn the save.
  • DCTC had eight hits in the game. Gabby Heckmann and Lexie Kennedy each collected multiple hits.
