DCTC Hits Cold Snap - Swept By Williston State

DCTC drops to 8-4 in league before travel to Montana for final series.

Rosemount, Minn. – The DCTC softball team hosted defending regional champions Williston State College over the weekend in a four game battle for first place.  The WSC Tetons jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and captured a 10-2 victory on Saturday in game one of the series.

In Saturday's second game, DCTC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Trena Larson (Sophomore Prior Lake) singled. A groundout by Ellie Schneider (Freshman New Ulm) then moved Larson from first to third. Jordyn Breitbarth (Freshman Hilo, HI) singled, scoring Larson. More runs came home for Dakota County Technical College when Breitbarth scored on an RBI single by Keya Rode (freshman, Oxbow Canada).

The back-and-forth game was tight with five lead changes until the Tetons pulled out the win thanks to a strong fifth inning, finally winning 12-4. Sunday's weather delayed the start of games some 90 minutes and saw the same results with the Tetons coming out on top on both games 11-6 and 9-2.

DCTC drops to 8-4 in Region XIII league play (12-15 overall) while Williston State jumps into first place at 10-2. DCTC plays its last home date on Wednesday hosting Iowa Lakes Community College in a double header starting at 1:30pm.  The Blue Knights then travel to Dawson Montana on Friday for a four game weekend set at Dawson Community College in what will end up being a battle for second place and an outside chance of catching Williston for the title.
