Marshalltown, Iowa. – The 2015 DCTC Men's Soccer season came to a close on Wednesday when the team lost to host Marshalltown Community College 6-1. Marshalltown entered the playoffs as one of only two undefeated teams in the nation. DCTC came off a Monday playoff win at Northeast Community College in Norfolk Nebraska to play its second out of state game in three days.
Sam Contreras (Freshman Hopkins) scored his tenth goal of the year to bring DCTC back within a goal from a 0-2 deficit in the first half. MCC would get a third first half goal to take a 3-1 lead into the break.
Coach Cam Stoltz commented: "I felt our team had a chance before the game and even at halftime. Our counter attack was effective and did create real goal scoring chances. However, we were over matched and the more experienced team punished us when the game had to open up."
DCTC's season had a number of hightlights. The team generated a ninth consecutive winning season. The squad generated 270 shots (28th of 160 teams) and 136 corner kicks (3rd of 160 teams). The Blue Knights had the fewest yellow cards (8) in any of previous 11 soccer seasons. For the first time in program history, the team had no ejections (red cards) and DCTC's 47 goals for was the third highest production year in 12 men's soccer seasons.
Marshalltown improved to 17-0-2 while DCTC finishes the year at 12-7-2."It was a very good year. Our freshman class dominated our starting line up with eight or nine first year guys starting every game this year. Our foundation is super strong going into the recruiting and signing season later this fall. Our sophomores have won 26 games in two years and all have a bright future in the game. The program is strong" said Stoltz.
