Men’s Soccer Win Home Finale - Zziwa’s header with six minutes left wins DCTC last home game

Rosemount, Minn - The Blue Knights Men's Soccer team defeated Gustavus Adolphus College JV 3-1 on Wednesday in a high paced contest that served as the rubber game in the past two game series this season. the two teams had tied 1-1 in St. Peter Minnesota just 11 days earlier. 

The pace of Wednesday night's game was high from kickoff. Gustavus struck early when they scored two minutes into the game. Just one minute later, Blue Knight forward Sammy Contreras (Freshman, Hopkins) took a midfield pass from Kapow Htoo (Freshman, St, Paul) and drove a 24 yard shot over the goalkeeper and off the the far post into the goal.

The speed of the game would not dither while defenses of both teams would seal each goal line. DCTC controlled a majority of the possession and shots in the game. With six minutes remaining, Hser Baw (Freshman, Roseville) drove a DCTC corner kick into the heart of the visitors goalbox where Michael Zziwa (Freshman, Kampala, Uganda) headed home his fourth game winner this season and seventh goal overall. Henry Puchuela (Sophomore, Richfield) scored DCTC's third goal with one second remaining on a pass from Contreras.

The win gives DCTC a season record of 11-6-2. The team hits the road for its last game of the season on Saturday, when they play Shattuck St. Mary's at 11am insid ethe Dome field at the Fairbault campus. DCTC will then travel to play its first NJCAA regional match on MOnday either at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska, or Scott Community College in Davenport, Iowa.
