DCTC Wins NJCAA DII District VII Championship

Dakota County Technical College men's basketball defeated the Southeast Community College Storm 84–82 to win the program's fourth straight NJCAA Division II Region VIII District VII championship. The home game was played Saturday, March 9, 2019, in the Activities building gym on the campus of Inver Hills Community College. The Storm completed their season with a 13–17 record, having won the DII Region IX championship.

Ranked #12 in the 2018–2019 NJCAA DII Men's Basketball Rankings, the Blue Knights advance to the 2019 NJCAA Men's DII Basketball Championship March 19–23, 2019, at the Mary Miller Center in Danville, Illinois.

Seeded #7 in the national tournament, DCTC (25–5) faces the Lakeland Community College Lakers (26–6) in Game 6 Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at 8:30 p.m. CST. Lakeland is the #10 seed in the tourney. The winner of Game 6 plays the winner of Game 4, either the #2 seed Johnson County Community College Cavaliers (28–4), ranked #3 in the nation, or the #15 seed Pitt Community College Bulldogs (23–8) in Game 11 Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at 8 p.m. CST.

Head Coach Kelly Boe is looking forward to competing during the postseason in Danville. "I am excited for this group to have the opportunity to go back to the NJCAA DII National Tournament," Coach Boe said. "They have been ranked nationally all season and earned their way back. The tournament field is going to be really strong, and we open up with a very good, well-balanced Lakeland team out of Ohio."

DCTC led Southeast at the half 41–39, but the Storm played dead even with the Blue Knights in the second half, 43–43. Dashawn Walker, 6'6 freshman forward, scored 23 points, recording six defensive rebounds and two steals. Amitri Collins-Westlund, 6'1 freshman guard, had 15 points, five assists and two steals. Jerimiah Coddon, 6'3 sophomore guard, pulled down nine rebounds, seven defensive and two offensive, while contributing 14 points, nine assists and two steals. Cody Sticha, 6'4 sophomore forward, and Termaine Daniels, 6'0 sophomore guard, each scored 11 points. Sticha added two blocked shots and two steals.

DCTC made it to the District VII championship game by beating the United Tribes Technical College Thunderbirds 90–85 in OT to win the NJCAA DII Region XIII Championship. The home game was held Sunday, March 3, 2019, in the Inver gym.
