DCTC wins first ever meeting against Wisconsin at Marathon County

Wausau Wisc. - Dakota County Technical College registered its ninth consecutive basketball win of the season on Saturday in Wausau Wisconsin by defeating the University of Wisconsin Marathon 74-67. The Blue Knights led the entire game until UWM took a brief 61-60 advantage with five minutes left.  However, the Blue Knights finished strong outscoring UWM 14-6 in the final stretch.

DCTC front men Malik Wilson (Sophomore St. Louis Park) and Sam Burt (Sophomore Apple Valley) led the way. Burt had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Wilson had 8 points and 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Nick Sabatke (Eagan) surged in the second half and finished the game with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Jamar Kelly (Sophomore St. Paul) came off the bench for 8 points and 6 rebounds.

"Any time you can go on the road and get a win, it's a good day. UW Marathon was a tough team with a lot of size and we were fortune to leave Wausau with the win" remarked Head Coach Ben Davis.

Game notes -

  • This was Sam Burt's 10th straight game scoring 10 points or more
  • Nick Sabatke scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half
  • Ben Davis' Blue Knights are 14-4 having DCTC off to its strongest start in its four season history. The 2011 Blue Knights were 13-5 at the 18 game mark under first year Head Coach Jay Pivec.
  • DCTC has 11 games remaining in the regular season before embarking on home court advantage for single elimination regional and district playoffs.
  • The win over UWM marks nine straight for DCTC. The programs longest winning streak was achieved in 11 straight wins just prior to a regional championship loss in 2011.
  • DCTC will look to extend their win streak to 10 games when the play Wednesday afternoon at 4:30pm as the visitor at Hamline JV.
