DCTC Baseball captures NJCAA Region 13 Championship, Region 13 Awards

The DCTC Blue Knights (38-11) go 3-0 to capture the NJCAA Region 13 Championship in Miles City, MT this past weekend!


DCTC wins 18-1 over Bismarck State in the opening game of the Region 13 Tournament.

Brady Schafer drove in seven runs on two hits to lead the Blue Knights past Mystics 18-1 on Saturday. Schafer hit a grand slam to left field in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, and doubled in the first inning, scoring three. The Blue Knights scored 12 runs in the first inning on the way to victory.  

Kale Hopke earned the win for the Blue Knights. The southpaw gave up one hit and one run over five innings, striking out six and walking one. 

DCTC piled up 11 hits in the game. Gibson, Johnson, Heymann, and Schafer each collecting two hits. 


DCTC 8-2 over Williston State in the winner's bracket game Saturday night. 

The Blue Knights scored five runs in the second inning, which helped them defeat Williston State Tetons 8-2 on Saturday night from Miles City.  Jun Moeller doubled, scoring three runs, Justin Johnson singled, scoring one run, and Evan Soeffker hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

A single by Soeffker on an 0-2 count put DCTC on the board in the bottom of the first.

LJ Manning started the game for the Blue Knights. The lefty allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking three. Evan Soeffker threw three and one-third innings of zero-run ball in relief. The righty gave up two hits, striking out five and walking one.

Nate Heymann and Moeller were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for DCTC. Moeller led the way with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. DCTC was patience at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Brady Schafer and Moeller led the team with two walks each. Jordan Hull stole two bases. The Blue Knights ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game.


DCTC wins Region 13 Championship 10-5 over Bismarck State.

Colin Gibson hit two home runs and drove in four as the Blue Knights defeated Mystics 10-5 on Sunday. Gibson homered in the third and eighth innings.

DCTC took the lead in the bottom of the first. Justin Johnson grounded out, scoring two runs, to give the Blue Knights the 2-1 lead and never looked back.

A single by Jordan Hull extended the Blue Knights lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

Four more runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 7-1. Gibson homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Hull drew a walk, scoring one run.

DCTC added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to back to back home runs by Colin Gibson and Justin Johnson.

Taylor Morrissette earned the win for DCTC. The right-handed pitcher allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four and walking four. Lance Behrens collected the save. Liam Martin appeared in relief for DCTC.

Blue Knights collected 13 hits in the game. Gibson, Hull, Johnson, Evan Soeffker, and Brady Schafer each collected two hits.


NJCAA Region 13 Awards 

Blue Knights Baseball capped off an exciting weekend with 2 awards at the Region 13 Tournament. 

Colin Gibson continued his huge season being named Region 13 Tournament MVP!

Head Coach Blaine Barthel was also awarded Region 13 Coach of the Year. Barthel is in his 3rd season as Head Coach with an overall record of 70-38 with the Blue Knights.

 

 

DCTC Baseball will host the NJCAA DII North Plains District Championships May 17-18 vs Des Moines Area Community College at the Ames Baseball Field on the DCTC campus. Friday, May 17th kicks off the District Championship with a doubleheader starting at 1pm. If necessary, the third game will be held Saturday, May 18th at 1pm. All games will be livestreamed on the DCTC Baseball YouTube Channel.

The winner of the best-of-3 series will represent the North Plains District in the NJCAA DII World Series in Enid, OK.
